Diversity and inclusion training sessions offered this month
The Office of Associate Chancellor for Diversity is providing three diversity and inclusion training sessions for faculty and staff this month.
Each of the sessions will be in the Student Services Building, Room 307.
The sessions are:
- Tuesday, Oct. 15, 9-10:30 a.m. – Introducing Diversity and Inclusivity. The training will introduce concepts of diversity, privilege, power, intersectionality, and how to be an ally.
- Oct. 24, 2-4 p.m. – Cultural Appropriation. The training will provide a more detailed understanding of cultural appropriation -- where it comes from, how it presents itself, the difference between cultural appropriation and appreciation, and ways people can make changes in their personal and professional lives.
- Oct. 28, 1-2:30 p.m. -- Becoming an Ally. This discussion-based training will allow participants to process feelings associated with privilege, develop strategies and skills to be an ally, and create opportunities and space for diversity and inclusion.
For more information or to sign up for the trainings, visit the diversity training page, or contact the diversity trainers at 453-2126 or diversitysiu@siu.edu.
