Join SIU Women’s Club for networking, philanthropy and more
CARBONDALE, Ill. — The fall membership drive for the Southern Illinois University Women’s Club is now underway.
The social organization, founded in 1937, is now welcoming new members from the SIU community for the 2019-20 academic year. All women with a personal or family connection to the university are welcome to join the group, which provides members opportunities to connect, establish and enhance friendships, serve the university, and participate in cultural, social and educational activities.
SIU connections
Membership is open to any woman who is connected to the university either as an employee, retiree or alumna. Women whose family members are SIU employees, retirees or alumni can also join.
Numerous activities
The social organization sponsors various activities and assists students with scholarships each year.
The club organizes several events, including a fall tea hosted by the spouse of the SIU system president, a symphony concert and more. Plans this year also include two luncheons featuring speakers from SIU, and a campus green tour, which will include lunch at one of the dining halls.
In addition, the SIU Women’s Club offers about 20 interest groups, providing members with similar interests the chance to connect, share, learn and foster friendships as they focus on various hobbies or activities. The interest groups’ focuses include movies, knitting and stitching, outdoor adventures, antiques, dining, bridge, books, opera, quilting, games, storytelling and a wide assortment of other areas.
Scholarships awarded
One of the highlights for the organization each year is the award of $2,000 scholarships to two or three deserving SIU female students. The Dorothy Morris Traditional Student Scholarship and the Joyce Guyon Non-Traditional Scholarship are presented each April at a special awards luncheon and business meeting.
The scholarships are named in honor of former SIU “first ladies.”

As SIU celebrates its 150th anniversary, the SIU Women’s Club celebrates along with the campus and marks its 82 years of involvement with and service to the university.
The annual membership is $15.
