Sustainability Council announces new Green Fund opportunity

The Sustainability Council will be facilitating a new fall semester pre-screening Green Fund period which will give faculty, staff and students an opportunity to further idea-development and receive dedicated feedback, especially for larger, more complex projects.

This pilot process is optional and is not a requirement to participating in the spring 2020 funding round. To enroll, however, interested funding applicants should review Green Fund requirements, complete the first five sections of the Green Fund proposal form and submit it to greenfund@siu.edu by Oct. 22.

The Green Fund Committee will then review proposals and plan an idea-development workshop in November. This workshop will include campus stakeholders who can provide specific feedback that will be crucial to project success.

In addition, open Green Fund workshops will take place next month for faculty, staff and students who are interested in submitting proposals for the spring 2020 funding cycle.

Details about the pre-screening process will also be explained during these workshops, taking place:

  • Oct. 8, 5:30 p.m., Engineering A122.
  • Oct. 11, noon, Morris Library 480A.

The 2020 Green Fund proposal submission deadline is March 1. Those who participate in this special pre-screening period will still need to submit a full Green Fund proposal by this deadline in order to be eligible for project funding in spring 2020.

Projects that receive funding next spring are expected to be announced in April.

Instituted in 2009, the Green Fund has awarded funding for 193 projects, totaling over $2.2 million allocated in sustainability across the SIU Carbondale campus community.
