Visiting artist program features letterpress artist Amos Paul Kennedy Jr.
Amos Paul Kennedy Jr., who quit his job as a systems analyst with AT&T and became well-known for his political and social commentary as a printer, book artist and papermaker, will present a lecture on campus tonight.
Kennedy’s lecture is at 7 p.m. Thursday in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium. Sponsored by the School of Art and Design, the presentation is free and open to the public. Kennedy’s appearance is the first in the Visiting Artist Program 2019-2020 lecture series, funded by the Fine Arts Activity Fee.
Kennedy studied printing at a community-based letterpress shop in Chicago after visiting Colonial Williamsburg and being mesmerized by an 18th century print shop and book bindery demonstration. He quit his job and continued printmaking studies.
Kennedy attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned a MFA in 1997. He later taught graphic design at the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts at Indiana University.
