‘Swipe Out Hunger’ drive set for Sept. 16-19

Faculty and staff are encouraged to share information on a program designed to help reduce student hunger on campus.

“Swipe Out Hunger SIU” is launching later this month and is a way for students to help their peers in need. Students with the Saluki Anytime Meal Plan will be able to donate up to four of their six guest meal swipes during the donation drive, Sept. 16-19. After the swipes are collected, students who are in need of meals will be able to request meal swipes to dine at Trueblood and Lentz dining halls.

Swipe Out Hunger is a national nonprofit started by a group of friends at UCLA in 2010. The national movement has grown to serving 1.6 million meals in 28 states and more than 80 campuses. SIU is excited to join the many campuses nationwide participating in this initiative and hopes to build a longstanding program to help hungry students.

SIU’s program is funded by the Student Green Fee and is a collaborative effort among Culinary and Nutrition Services, the Saluki Food Pantry, Wellness and Health Promotion Services and the Office of Sustainability.
