Media Advisory – SIU Carbondale’s Karen Midden to receive Honorary State FFA Degree

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to agriculture education and the Illinois Association FFA, Karen Midden, dean of Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Agricultural Sciences, will receive an honorary State FFA Degree at the 91st annual Illinois State FFA Convention in June.

The convention is June 11-13 at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield, Illinois. Founded in 1929, FFA is a technical and career student organization that offers agricultural education support to middle and high school classes.

As the highest honor from the Illinois Associate FFA, the degree acknowledges Midden’s support to the State FFA Officer team, along with her commitment to agricultural education across the state.

Midden will receive the honorary degree during an evening session of the convention at 5:30 p.m., June 12. She will also participate in a panel discussion and share ideas on how to keep students in Illinois for college.

Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the event and Midden’s honorary degree. To arrange for interviews, contact Susan Graham at sgraham@siu.edu.
