Media Advisory – Support for Touch of Nature
Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center will be receiving a special donation from the SIU Credit Union at 10 a.m. on June 13 at Freeberg Hall in Camp 2. Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the presentation.
Kim Babington, vice president of community outreach, will represent the credit union in giving a $10,000 donation check earmarked for the popular Dawg Days program. Touch of Nature staff and campers who are enjoying spending time this summer at the outdoor experiential learning facility will be in attendance.
Dawg Days is the special retreat SIU sponsors each August for new students. The four-day, three-night retreat brings together new SIU freshmen and transfer students at Touch of Nature, for a wide variety of activities designed to help them connect and bond with other students and get a jump start on the road to college success.
The donation will be used to provide general support for the program and to help fund scholarships to enable more students to participate in the 2019 Dawg Days, set for Aug. 11-14.
