Media Advisory- Reception is May 10 for Bangkok University president emeritus, Thanu Kulachol
President emeritus of Bangkok University and former senator of Thailand Thanu Kulachol is coming to Carbondale to receive an honorary doctor of education leadership degree from SIU during the May 11 commencement ceremony.
Prior to the ceremony, a special reception in Kulachol’s honor is set for May 10 at SIU’s Morris Library. The reception begins at 10:30 a.m. at the 3rd floor rotunda at Morris Library. A special ceremony and light refreshments will highlight the event.
Local reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the activities and competitions.
Kulachol is an international leader in education, earning his Ph.D. in higher education from SIU in 1977, before returning to serve at Thailand’s oldest and largest private university, Bangkok University. Kulachol also served on the Thai Senate and is currently on the boards of TPC Power Holding Public Co. and Thai Polycons PCL.
Twice Kulachol received invitations to take part in the United Nation’s Secretary General’s Global Colloquium of University Presidents, sharing in the international discussion on higher education issues.
Kulachol’s wife Nongyao Kulachol will join him at the reception, along with his daughter Dear, his son-in-law Clint Rice and his two grandchildren, Tara and CJ.
