Media Advisory – New Teaching Graduate Pinning

The newest group of teacher graduates from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Teacher Education Programs will be recognized during a special pinning ceremony this month and members of the media are invited to attend.

About 50 graduates have completed their student teaching, the final educational milestone in their path to becoming professional educators. Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the ceremony, set for 4 p.m. on May 8 in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.

Each of the students will be recognized during the festivities. Those attending will include family, friends and the cooperating teachers who supervised the students as they put the lessons learned at SIU into practice, as well as university faculty and staff.

While completing classes at SIU within the colleges hosting their majors, the students begin practicing the art of teaching with part-time clinical placements their junior year. After three semesters of practical experience, they devote their final semester to full-time student teaching, working in numerous schools located all over the region.

They will receive their pins, marking the end of their SIU undergraduate experience, from the teachers they’ve served alongside this spring. A reception will be held in conjunction with the ceremony.
