CARBONDALE, Ill. — The seventh annual Rocky Ledges Trail Run, a unique event that takes place at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center, is set for May 4. As a special bonus, this year’s event brings with it an international film showcase the preceding night.
The two mesh to create special experience for trail runners and nature enthusiasts alike.
Trail and running films featured
Ledlenser Trail in Motion Film Tour is a festival-style event highlighting a variety of fine trail and ultra-running films. Hosted by ultra-runners Kelly and Stephanie LeeAnn Hutchins, the evening includes food and drinks from St. Nicholas Brewing Company, which is partnering with Touch of Nature and So Ill Racing to sponsor the event.
The movie night begins at 6 p.m. on May 3 at Touch of Nature’s Little Grassy Lodge. Everyone is welcome.
Tickets are available online for $25 plus a $2.68 service fee. For an additional cost, lodging is also available at Touch of Nature for people who are participating in the run the next day.
Everyone invited to run
The Rocky Ledges Trail Run kicks off at 9 a.m. on May 4 at Camp II. This year, runners may choose to participate in either a 5K or a 10K run. The courses cover a wide variety of terrains and feature beautiful views of Little Grassy Lake.
Trophies will go to the top three male and female runners in each age group, as well as to the overall winner. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the 10k run. Light refreshments will be available as well.
Register now to run
Sign up now for the run. Registration is online and all who enter by April 24 are guaranteed at T-shirt. Those who pre-register by May 2 pay $30 (or $20 for ages 17 and younger). You can still register the day of the event but the cost is $35 for adults or $25 for ages 17 and younger.
Event proceeds to help build trails
Proceeds of the film tour and the run will go toward the ongoing construction project to build a multi-use trail system at Touch of Nature. Donations will also be accepted for the project.
