MFA Thesis Exhibitions set for April and May at the Surplus Gallery and University Museum

The School of Art and Design will present the 2019 MFA Thesis Exhibitions at the Surplus Gallery at the Glove Factory and the University Museum. These exhibitions display the culminating work of seven artists who will graduate this May.

These graduating students have received exposure to extensive studio worktime, visiting artists, faculty mentoring, workshops, conferences, and focused creative research. The combination of these experiences has broadened their innovative perspectives and shaped their responsibilities as artists.  Exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Exhibiting artists and shows at the Surplus Gallery include:

  • Ann Dawkins “The Rotten Ones” and Becca Howe "(un)Natural.”

Open gallery hours are 11 a.m. -1:30 p.m., April 9-12. Closing reception is set for 6-8 p.m. on April 12.

  • Shelly Cournoyer “Worn Connections” and Justin Smith "Impetus."

Open gallery hours are 12-3 p.m., April 16-19. Closing reception is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. on April 19.

  • Philip Ragan “OMNISCIENCE” and Kristen Walk “The View from Down Here.”

Open gallery hours are 11 a.m.–1 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. on April 30 and May 2, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on May 1. Closing reception set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. on May 3.

Exhibiting artists and shows at the University Museum include:

  • Johnny Hammond “Read Between the Lines.”

Open gallery hours are April 28-May 5. The Museum is open Tuesdays–Fridays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturdays 1-4 p.m. Closing reception set for 5-7 p.m. on May 5.
