CARBONDALE, Ill. — With over 10 years of higher education experience, John Frost joined Southern Illinois University Carbondale as the new director of admissions, beginning March 1.

Earning his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, Frost started his career in television broadcasting before transitioning into higher education. He obtained his master’s degree in organizational performance from Bellevue University, where he served as the community college outreach manager and then the assistant director of regional operations. Frost also earned experience working at Metropolitan Community College and Webster University.

At SIU, Frost oversees recruitment and admissions strategies focused on bringing awareness and assistance to new and transferring students. Part of this includes managing the visit program to encourage students to experience the SIU campus for themselves, while also working with articulation agreements to ensure students have a smooth transition into their desired program.

Focusing on both students and the community

Frost comes to SIU with the desire to connect with current and future students, along with the many other invested members of the community.

“This role is personal to a lot of people,” Frost said. “My job isn’t limited to just what is happening at the university, but also focuses on the impact in the community.”

Frost hopes to bring not only education, but also inspiration to those involved with the university.

“My goal is not to just increase enrollment, but also have a strong positive impact on retention,” Frost said. “We want our students to fall in love with the place and feel like they have a stake in the ownership here.”

With a wife and two sons joining him in Carbondale this spring, Frost looks forward to contributing to the university’s mission while also connecting with the many passionate students, faculty, alumni and community members he already sees around him.
