Media Advisory – High School Drafting and Design Competition
More than 80 students from seven area high schools who have an interest in architecture will be at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Friday for the Illinois Design Educators Association regional competition.
The competition is from 9 to 3 a.m. in Quigley Hall, home to the university’s School of Architecture. Students from Benton, Carbondale, Herrin, Marion, West Frankfort, Vienna and Zeigler-Royalton will compete. The best time for interviews with students and School of Architecture faculty starts at 11 a.m., although camera crews and photographers will be able to get photos and video of competing students.
This is the second year SIU School of Architecture is hosting the regional. In addition to competing locally, this is a great opportunity for students to see what the university’s architectural studies program has to offer.
The event includes computer-based and drafting designs in various locations in the building, along with a team competition. The top three finishers in each of the 10 events earn awards, with the top two finishers qualifying for state competition April 27 at Illinois State University.
Students will also receive tours of the School of Architecture’s programs and facility beginning at 11 a.m. Awards will be announced starting at 1 p.m. after lunch.
For more information and to arrange for interviews, contact Scott Frisch, IT manager and administrative coordinator, School of Architecture at 618/453-3734.
