‘Celebrate’ Day of Giving on Wednesday

Join the SIU Carbondale community, alumni, parents, students and friends in supporting the university during Day of Giving festivities that start at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Coinciding with the 24-hour online giving campaign that runs through 6 a.m. Thursday, #SIUDAY will also kickoff the university’s 150th anniversary celebration that looks at SIU’s accomplishments, but also eagerly anticipates the future.

The Day of Giving website  provides more information on the event and allows everyone to provide benefits to present and future Salukis, along with SIU programs, by donating to more than 150 campus areas and projects.

There are several ways to follow the difference that donors are making during the 24 hours online and through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Morris Library will be host to a big birthday gift box reveal. Chancellor John Dunn will make remarks at the event featuring special campus and community guests and birthday cake.

Throughout the day, there will be hourly giveaways at the Student Center and Morris Library as well, courtesy of the SIU Foundation.

The university’s 150th anniversary website is also the place to go for interesting historical tidbits and photos and to learn more about special activities happening all year.

“Southern Illinois University at 150 Years: Growth, Accomplishments, and Challenges,” a 384-page hardcover coffee table book, is now available through SIU Press. The book features stories and photos with a narrative that “largely focuses on the last 50 years and includes many little known tales and highlights.” The publication is also available in digital format.
