Participants, judges needed for student creative, research activities forum

SIU is looking for student creative and research activities and a few good judges for an upcoming forum showcasing student research and creative activities.

The Student Creative Activities & Research Forum is set for April 8 at the Student Center Ballrooms. Students are invited to display a poster that explains the methods and results of their creative or research project. To participate, students should send an abstract of their project to research@siu.edu by Tuesday.

Organizers also are looking now for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students to act as judges for the event. Deadline to apply as a judge is March 15. To apply, send an email to research@siu.edu explaining your intent to participate.

Forum showcases top student work

Previously, there have been two separate events to celebrate the range and quality of the original work being performed by undergraduate and graduate students at SIU. This year these two events are being merged.

All students engaged in any type of scholarly activities, research, or creative activities are invited to present a poster at the event.

Prizes awarded in two categories

Following the forum, Chancellor John Dunn and Vice Chancellor for Research James Garvey will speak and award prizes for first, second, and third place. Prizes will be awarded for the best poster presentations in two categories, undergraduate and graduate.

Judging, participating provides opportunities

Acting as a judge or contestant for the event will provide an opportunity to network and obtain a strong résumé-building experience, organizers said, as well as the chance to see top student creative and research projects up close.

The event runs 9-11 a.m., with a poster session open for public viewing 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Award presentations begin at 3 p.m.
