Faculty, staff can volunteer for “The Big Event”
On March 30, more than 1,000 SIU Carbondale students, faculty and staff members will come together to say “thank you” to the Carbondale community at one of the largest, one-day, student-run service projects in the nation.
By rallying students together to participate in a third annual day of community service, “The Big Event: A Saluki Day of Service” aspires to give back to our local community while encouraging year-round community engagement.
The day will begin with a kickoff ceremony in the Student Center before volunteers depart in teams to non-profit sites around Carbondale. Volunteers will participate in a variety of service-related activities including downtown cleanup, nature trail clearing, food pantry packaging, and more. There will be two volunteer shifts throughout the day. SIU faculty and staff are also invited to volunteer in the community and work alongside university students.
Those interested in volunteering or who want to learn more should visit “The Big Event” website. The online volunteer registration link is open through March 15.
