Transferring to SIU Carbondale is easier thanks to new articulation agreement with Kaskaskia College
CARBONDALE, Ill. — A new agreement with Southern Illinois University Carbondale sets Kaskaskia College students up for an easier path to transfer into their desired program after graduating with an associate’s degree.
Four different degree programs approved
The new agreement, signed Jan. 28 at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, cover four areas of study and allow students to carry previously earned credits into their next educational career path. Students may transfer into the following SIU bachelor degree programs:
- Communication studies – From Kaskaskia College’s speech program.
- Industrial management and applied engineering – From Kaskaskia College’s welding technology program.
- Industrial management and applied engineering – From Kaskaskia College’s industrial technology program.
- Music education – From Kaskaskia College’s music education program.
New opportunities for students
Meera Komarraju, provost and vice chancellor, Jennifer DeHaemers, associate chancellor of enrollment management, Josi Rawls, program articulation and outreach coordinator and Sandy Pensoneau-Conway, communication studies department chair, represented SIU at the signing ceremony.
“SIU Carbondale is very pleased to be partnering with Kaskaskia College on these new agreements,” DeHaemers said. “This partnership, which provides another pathway to career readiness and advancement, is really important to both institutions as well as the students.”
The agreement outlines which courses are required at both institutions to allow for transfers and make the transition as smooth as possible for students. Similar agreements already exist between SIU and Kaskaskia, with agreements in programs including business, criminal justice and animal science and technical resource management.
