The Dorothy Morris Traditional Student Scholarship and the Joyce Guyon Non-Traditional Scholarship are each worth $2,000. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1.

Eligibility criteria

Any female undergraduate student who is enrolled in an on-campus degree program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is eligible to apply if she has:

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Completed a minimum of 24 credits at SIU.

Preference goes to applicants who will have senior status when the spring 2019 semester concludes.

Winner selections based on several factors

The scholarship recipients are chosen on the basis of academic achievement, career goals and aspirations, leadership experience, references and financial need.

The SIU Women’s Club Dorothy Morris Traditional Student Scholarship is given to a student who continues her college education within a few years after graduating high school. The Joyce Guyon Non-Traditional Student Scholarship will go to a woman whose college education has been interrupted in some way.

Club honors first ladies with scholarships

The SIU Women’s Club, which celebrated its 80th birthday least year, is a social organization for women who have a professional or personal connection to the university. The group sponsors a variety of special events as well as field trips, day trips and some 20 interest groups which provide women with similar interests opportunities to gather.

The club’s scholarships honor two SIU Carbondale “first ladies” who strongly supported women in academics.
