2018 American Song Festival begins Wednesday
The School of Music’s 2018 American Song Festival starts Wednesday and will feature Grammy-nominated alumna Emily Fons.
The festival runs Wednesday through Saturday in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall and will include master classes and faculty and student performances. The faculty recital is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday.
This year’s festival celebrates the creative genius and dynamic repertoires of American song composers.
Fons earned her Master of Music degree from SIU Carbondale in 2008. The mezzo soprano, who was featured in the university’s winter 2016 Alumni Magazine, has gone on to perform at many of the world’s most prestigious music venues, including the Santa Fe Opera, Seattle Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic.
Fons’ recital will feature songs of Jake Heggie, James Stephenson, Richard Hundley and Leonard Bernstein.
More details on the festival are available online.
