Media Advisory – SIU Law Professors available to provide Supreme Court Confirmation Hearing Analysis

As the confirmation process for U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh continues before the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Southern Illinois University School of Law has experts who are available to discuss the hearings, confirmation process and related events to reporters, photographers and news crews.

Associate Professor Steven J. Macias teaches Constitutional Law classes. Assistant Professor Edward Dawson, who clerked for retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy in 2004, teaches classes that include federal courts and constitutional law.

Kavanaugh, if approved by the U.S. Senate, will fill Kennedy’s seat on the nine-member court. Both SIU professors will also be available to discuss the Senate vote when that occurs.

To arrange interviews, Dawson can best be reached by email at edawson@siu.edu and Macias can be reached at 618/536-8464 or by email at smacias@siu.edu.
