Join SIU Women’s Club for great networking, philanthropy and fun activities
CARBONDALE, Ill. — The SIU Women’s Club is now sponsoring its fall membership drive.
The social organization was founded in 1937 to give women associated with the university a chance to connect, establish and enhance friendships, serve Southern Illinois University Carbondale and participate in cultural, social and educational activities. All women who have a personal or family connection to the university are eligible and welcome to apply for membership.
High Tea, trip to St. Louis Symphony and other events planned
The club sponsors numerous annual activities and awards.
The signature event is the annual Fall High Tea, scheduled for Sept. 27 this year at the Stone Center. Other fall activities include an evening fashion show at Macy’s and a campus green tour and luncheon.
Also slated for the coming year are a trip to the St. Louis Symphony, dinners and luncheons featuring guest speakers, and group attendance at performances at McLeod Theater and Saluki women’s athletic events.
Connect with women with similar interests
The SIU Women’s Club also offers nearly 20 interest groups, which provide members with additional opportunities to share, learn and enjoy friendships as they focus on various topics. Interest groups include adventure, antiques, arts and crafts, books, bridge, movies, quilting, Scrabble, storytelling, and a variety of cooking and dining groups.
Groups form in conjunction with members’ interests. The groups typically meet about once a month in the homes of members, at the SIU Faculty House or in other locations.
Philanthropic activities
The club also fosters success in SIU female undergraduate students through the award of two scholarships each year. Funded through voluntary donations by members, the scholarships honor two former SIU first ladies: Dorothy Morris and Joyce Guyon.

Becoming a member of the SIU Women’s Club takes just a few moments.
Complete the online application and pay the $15 annual membership dues or print, complete and mail the application and dues as specified on the form. New members can indicate on the application which interest groups they want to participate in.
