Future Saluki Game Day gives prospective students an SIU experience

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Registration is now open for Future Saluki Game Day, an event created to give prospective students and their families a chance to experience what college life is really like at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

High school and transfer students welcome

Future Saluki Game Day is set for Sept. 29 at the SIU Arena and Saluki Family Tailgate area. Check-in is from 2 to 2:30 p.m. in the east lobby of the arena and activities continue throughout the afternoon, culminating with free tickets for the Saluki football game at 6 p.m.

All Southern Illinois high school students and college students who are considering transferring, along with their families, are invited to attend.

Campus tours, food and more

The event is held during SIU’s Family Weekend and participants will attend a short welcome event before taking a tour of campus and university housing facilities. They can meet with the academic departments and learn more about admissions, financial aid, housing options and anything else they might want to know about the university.

High school seniors can even apply to SIU for free that day. To qualify for the free admission application, students must bring their official transcripts and ACT or SAT test scores (if applicable) in a sealed envelope.

Free game tickets

Potential future Salukis can also request up to four free wristbands to admit them and family members to the football game as the Salukis take on the South Dakota Coyotes. Wristband availability is limited so organizers suggest students register early for Saluki Game Day.

Prior to the game, they can also enjoy free food at the Saluki Family Tailgate.

In addition, all students who register for the Future Saluki Game Day Celebration will automatically receive a free two-day admission pass to Saluki Comic Con, held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 29-30 at the Student Center. Parents and family members attending game day with them can purchase a day pass for the discount price of $5.

Registration ends Sept. 24

The deadline to sign up for the event is Sept. 24. Early registration assures participants can claim game wristbands.
