Media Advisory – Move-in 2018

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is welcoming new and returning students to campus this week prior to the start of the fall semester on Aug. 20. Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover move-in and other back-to-school activities.

On Thursday, all new students will move into campus residence halls. The Wall and Grand Apartments and Evergreen Terrace will also open for new and returning students. The rest of the students will move into campus residential facilities on Friday. Move-in each day is between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

To avoid congestion and assure Salukis and their families can get where they need to go for move-in, media are asked to utilize parking lots 4 and 40, near the Communications Building on Lincoln Drive.

During move-in, the process typically begins with students and their families dropping off the student’s belongings in designated areas near each residence hall. Hundreds of volunteers from campus and the community will assist students in moving their things in.

Students residing in University Housing, as well as their families and the registered volunteer helpers, can enjoy a free welcome meal in the dining hall on their move-in day. Anyone else may dine there by purchasing a guest meal ticket at the dining hall entrance.

The complete move-in schedule and other relevant University Housing information is available online. For additional details, or answers to specific questions, contact Jim Hunsaker, senior associate director of University Housing, at 618/201-2211.

Highlights include new student convocation and photo, Saluki Spirit Pep Rally, a community welcome fest, the New Light up the Lake event on Campus Lake, an involvement fair, Dawg Fest, Saluki Sprint and much more.
