Volunteers welcomed as SIU students begin a new year

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale will soon be buzzing with activity as students return and numerous special events are planned. Campus and community volunteers will help ensure a great experience for students, beginning with move-in, and additional volunteers are welcome.

Volunteers needed for Saluki Startup and Weeks of Welcome

This fall, SIU is sponsoring Saluki Startup, a three-day series of events for new students Aug. 16-18, and the Weeks of Welcome or “WOW” celebration, which runs from Aug. 19 through Saluki Family Weekend at the end of September.

Numerous diverse events are planned, including a kick-off event, the new Light up the Lake night, a watermelon fest, a business fair and much more.

New Student Programs has launched a new app, the MySIU App, available at Apple’s App Store and Google Play. It features up-to-date schedules for Saluki Startup, Weeks of Welcome, and other upcoming programming from the office.

The schedules and more details about Saluki Startup and Weeks of Welcome are also available online.

Volunteer opportunities are posted online
