‘The Nutcracker’ comes to Shryock Auditorium

Sugar Plum Fairies, the Mouse King and of course, the Nutcracker Prince, come to Shryock Auditorium for an orchestra and ballet presentation of the holiday favorite, Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.”

The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra presents this holiday treat at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 2. Dancers from Carbondale’s Willow Street Studio, performers from the Southern Illinois Children’s Choir and special guest professional principal dancers bring the enchanting tale of young Clara’s Christmas night adventure.

The ballet is one of the Tchaikovsky’s most famous, both for the music and for the beautiful scenery, the dances from Spain, France, Arabia and Russia, and the fantastic dancing snowflakes, gingerbread and tin soldiers.

Tickets are $20, $8 for students of any age. Tickets are available at the door beginning one hour before the performance. Get tickets in advance at the SIU Arena or McLeod Theater box offices, call 618/453-2000 or order online.
