Ten vying for SIU homecoming king, queen honors
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Voting is underway for Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s of 2017 homecoming king and queen.
“The Saluki Odyssey: Heroes, Myths and Legends” is the theme of SIU’s homecoming celebration Oct. 8-15 and 10 students comprise the homecoming court. Online student voting for the crowns is taking place now through 8 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12.
The coronation will take place at halftime of the Oct. 14 football game. The Salukis face the Illinois State Redbirds at 2 p.m. at Saluki Stadium. NBA legend and Saluki alumnus Walt Frazier is the homecoming grand marshal.
The 2017 SIU homecoming queen candidates, in alphabetical order with their year, hometown and major, are:
- Marissa Asbury, a senior dental hygiene major from Franklin Grove
- Ja’Viania Conley, a junior sports administration major from Lansing
- Katie Friend, a senior with a double major in political science and criminology and criminal justice from Morris
- Danielle Graham, a senior healthcare management major from St. Anne
- Tierney Rhone, a senior social work major from St. Louis, Mo.
This year’s king candidates are:
- Joshua Bowens, a junior political science major with psychology minor from Chicago
- Brian Laurore, a senior electrical engineering major from Antioch, Tenn.
- Jordan Taylor, a senior radio, television and digital media major with minor in journalism from Morton Grove
- Zack Turner, a senior cinematography major with a radio/television minor from Berlin, Germany
- Matthew Wilson, a senior radio, television and digital media major with communication studies minor from Carbondale.
