Success Coach to Help Make Dreams Come True
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- There’s always a first step when turning dreams into reality. To help people take that first step by clarifying their dreams and goals, Southern Illinois University Carbondale is sponsoring The BIG Dream Gathering with author Mitch Matthews.
The BIG Dream Gathering will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 in Ballrooms C and D of the Student Center. Students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome to attend the free event.
Registration kicks off at 6:15 p.m. Those who arrive early will receive a free copy of Matthews’ bestselling book, “Ignite.”
Matthews, a best-selling author, success coach and motivational speaker, initiated the “BIG Dream Gathering” in 2006 and said that since that time, thousands of dreams have been launched. The evening kicks off with an amusing and entertaining keynote presentation by Matthews, co-founder of the initiative.
He encourages people to give thought to what their dreams and goals are and to write them down, clarifying things in their own minds. As participants add their ideas and dreams to those posted around the room, they’ll see and be inspired by what others are thinking. Matthews will share four key strategies for setting goals and building plans to help you achieve them.
The BIG Dream Gathering events have actually served as a launch pad for making the dreams of some participants come true. After attending one BIG Dream Gathering, a college student who aspired to become a photographer connected with a Pulitzer prize-winning mentor. At another, an elementary school teacher secured help to send numerous school supplies to children in Africa. Participants have also received the inspiration and help needed to start businesses and non-profit organizations or to simply pursue smaller goals such as skydiving or taking dream vacations.
With support from SIU and American Family Insurance, the university’s Student Programming Council and Saluki Cents Financial Literacy Team are sponsoring the BIG Dream Gathering.
