SIU will help open Du Quoin State Fair on Aug. 25

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University Carbondale will be front-and-center during the opening of the Du Quoin State Fair later this month. 

The university will celebrate “College Night at the Du Quoin State Fair” from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25. The evening also marks the opening of the 11-day fair, which runs Aug. 25 through Sept. 4.The SIU Tent will be located in the southwest corner of the Du Quoin State Fairground near Gate 6. 

The event will provide an opportunity to meet new Chancellor Carlo Montemagno and SIU System President Randy Dunn. Potential future Salukis will also be able to meet with admissions counselors and SIU Alumni Association representatives will be present to help present and past Salukis join or renew memberships. Grey Dawg, along with the Saluki Shakers and Cheerleaders will also be there to join the celebration. 

Visitors will be able to learn about many of the university’s programs such as the Fermentation Science Institute and the resources available at the Touch of Nature Environmental Center. Student registered organizations will be on hand to discuss their specific programs, including the SIU Agbassadors from the College of Agricultural Sciences, and the Automotive Technology Organization from the Department of Automotive Technology. Members of the organization’s Saluki Drag Racing Team will be present.
