Dunn announces two additional chancellor finalists

CARBONDALE, Ill. – SIU System President Randy Dunn today (Tuesday) announced the names of two additional finalists who will be considered for the position of chancellor of SIU Carbondale.

They are: Rodney Scott Hanley, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., and Carlo Montemagno, professor of engineering, chemical and materials engineering at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, and founding director of the Ingenuity Lab for the Province of Alberta.

Dunn’s office is in the process of scheduling one-day campus visits for Hanley and Montemagno. Those would include an open forum and as many of the other meetings as possible that reflect the itineraries of the first-round finalists, Interim SIU Carbondale Chancellor Brad Colwell, and George Hynd, president of Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. The campus visits will take place prior to SIU Board of Trustees’ interviews with the four finalists.

Finalist Carl Pinkert, vice president for research and economic development at the University of Alabama, withdrew from consideration.

During a special meeting on May 10, the SIU Board tabled the agenda item regarding the selection of a permanent chancellor for SIU Carbondale.

After a three-hour closed session, board members decided that because of continuing differences of opinion surrounding the recommendation for chancellor, they will personally interview Colwell and Hynd, who did campus visits in April, along with the newly added finalists.

The curriculum vita for each finalist is available here.
