Open forums for CIE director begin next week

Two candidates for director of the university’s Center for International Education will meet with constituents in a series of open forums beginning next week.

The candidates are: Andrew D. Carver, interim director, SIU Carbondale Center for International Education, and Richard Porter, director, international student and scholar services, Texas Tech University.

The candidates will each discuss “Critical Issues in International Education.” Each of the open forums will be from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.

The open forum schedule is:

  • Friday, May 5 – Richard Porter
  • Monday, May 8 – Andrew D. Carver

The director provides leadership for study abroad programs, international student support, international development, and enrollment management for international students. The director’s duties include promoting creation of international projects, leading international student enrollment initiatives, facilitating protocol for international visitors, cultivating international alumni and representing the university’s outreach mission overseas. The director’s responsibilities also include expanding study abroad and international partnerships, and international student recruitment and retention.
