Talk will look at female labor in Russian film industry
Michele Leigh, assistant professor in the Department of Cinema and Photography, will present a lecture March 9 as a part of the Women Faculty Award Spotlight Series.
Leigh will present “Archaeologies of Influence: An Exploration of Female Labor in the Russian Film Industry, 1908 - 1920 and Why it Matters,” at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ohio Room. Leigh is the winner of the University Women’s Professional Advancement (UWPA) and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Research, Scholarly, Creative Activity Award.
Leigh is also cross-appointed faculty with the university’s WGSS program. She is co-chair for the Society for Cinema and Media Studies scholarly interest group Women in Screen History, and co-executive president for Women in Film History International. She was selected as a 2016-2017 Fulbright Scholar and during her four months in Russia, Leigh conducted research in Moscow on women who worked in the Russian film industry before the Revolution.
