Volunteer registration open for ‘The Big Event’

Registration is now open for faculty, staff and students to volunteer for the largest one-day service project in the history of the university. April 1, 2017, will be the inaugural “The Big Event: A Saluki Day of Service,” when Saluki volunteers will work in teams to complete projects for non-profit agencies and organizations in the Carbondale area.

“The Big Event: A Saluki Day of Service” is modeled after Texas A & M University’s inaugural event in 1982. You will find The Big Event on 110 campuses across the country, and at universities in Spain, Australia, Germany, Pakistan and Italy.

“The Big Event: A Saluki Day of Service” is designed to be a thank-you to the community for supporting students and our university. Agencies and organizations that will benefit from this day of service include the Boys & Girls Club of Carbondale, Jackson County Healthy Communities Coalition, Carbondale Main Street, Green Earth, For Kids’ Sake, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Keep Carbondale Beautiful and the Autism Society of Illinois.
