Media Advisory -- Textbook Awards Ceremony

Reporters, photographers and news crews are invited to a ceremony where more than 30 Southern Illinois University Carbondale students will receive SIU Alumni Association awards for textbooks and supplies for the spring 2017 semester. 

The ceremony is at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17, in Student Center Ballroom D. The Textbook Award Ceremony has become an annual tradition of the Association, with hundreds of students receiving this financial assistance since 2008. The spring semester starts Tuesday. 

Awards are granted to students who demonstrate a financial need and have a GPA of at least 3.0.

Each student who receives a scholarship award will make brief comments during the ceremony and will be photographed with their college dean or representative. A reception, featuring light refreshments, will follow the program.
