Young artists’ creations will be on display

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Children see the world differently than adults do, it’s said, and the art they produce is a reflection of that different vision. The Saturday Young Artist Art Show at Southern Illinois University Carbondale gives a peek at that different vision with the work of artists from kindergarten through eighth grade enrolled in the School of Art and Design community outreach program.

The artwork will be on display in the Allyn Building Oct. 24-29 with a closing reception 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Oct. 29. The reception includes refreshments. All art was made during the Saturday Young Artist Workshops and includes piñatas, mosaics, drawing and prints.

The workshops operate on a different theme each session. Art education students prepare and teach the lessons. The program is open to students from the greater Carbondale area and can handle up to 50 students.

The fall 2016 session of workshops has begun. The next opportunity to enroll will come with the spring 2017 semester. For more information, contact Kathleen Frye at kfrye@siu.edu or 618/453-7765.
