Provost Fellow Program deadline is Nov. 10

The Provost Fellow Program provides part-time academic leadership experience and skill development to a member of the faculty who has an interest in academic administration. The selected faculty member will engage in regular operations and activities of the provost’s office.

Fellows will gain insight into administrative practices and procedures such as budgeting, academic planning, shared governance, student success programming, retention activities, and assessment. Opportunities will also exist to contribute in areas of special mutual interest to the candidate and the university.

Candidates are asked to apply by the close of business on last day of the 12th week of each semester for appointment during the following term, excluding summer semester. The application deadline for the spring 2017 Faculty Fellow Program is Nov. 10.

Fellows, who will receive one course release (25 percent) for each term served, must be a tenured associate or full professor. No more than one fellowship shall be awarded to the same individual within any five-year period. Eligible faculty members should submit a letter of interest, a vita, and two letters of endorsement from the department chair and dean to the Office of the Provost via email to Sharon Brooks at sharonr@siu.edu. Endorsement letters must reference and agree to the course release.

Candidates should also submit three letters of reference. Letters of interest should demonstrate the candidate’s leadership potential, highlight their career aspirations in higher education administration, and discuss specific areas of expertise or interest. The candidate should also propose one or more possible projects on which they are interested in working. The provost, in consultation with the chancellor, will select the Provost Fellow based on area of interest, demonstrated leadership potential, and existing needs of the university.
