Media Advisory – FFA High School Horse Judging
Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to join hundreds of FFA high school students at the Section Five FFA horse judging contest beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, the first FFA event of the academic year at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. All events take place at the SIU Horse Center on Union Hill Road near campus. Students from area high schools will evaluate horses in halter classes, where they judge the horses’ conformation and overall structure, and in riding classes, where they evaluate the animals’ suitability for performance based on movement, willingness and overall ease in working with the rider. The College of Agricultural Sciences hosts several FFA and other events throughout the year for high school students, which often bring hundreds of students to campus. The SIU Collegiate FFA chapter will assist with this event.
