High school, transfer students invited to game day event

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- High school and college transfer students from throughout Southern Illinois are invited to experience Southern Illinois University Carbondale for themselves at the Future Saluki Game Day Celebration on Sept. 17.

The event, held during SIU’s Family Weekend, gives prospective students and their family members the opportunity to see what the university has to offer them. They can take a tour of campus and learn about academic programs, financial aid, housing, admissions and much more. But, that’s not all.

All registered participants can also enjoy a tailgate with complimentary food and beverages along with free admission to an SIU football game as the Salukis take on the Murray State University Racers. Each prospective student who registers can get up to four free game wristbands.

The fun begins with check-in from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the Student Center followed by tours of the campus and University Housing facilities, informational sessions, an academic college and campus department fair, and other activities. The tailgate, which also features giveaways, is from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. and game time is at 6 p.m.

“The Future Saluki Game Day Celebration is a special event for all ages of Southern Illinois high school and transfer students, as well as their families,” Michelle Rust, senior admissions coordinator for Undergraduate Admissions, said.

Prospective students and family members can find the complete schedule of events and other details as well as online registration for the Future Saluki Game Day Celebration at http://admissions.siu.edu/visit/special-events/game-day-php. Or, sign up by contacting Rust at 618/453-2184 or by email at mrust@siu.edu

Registration is requested by Sept. 12. Organizers also note that availability of the football game admission wristbands is limited so early registration is encouraged.

SIU’s Undergraduate Admissions is the sponsor for the Future Saluki Game Day Celebration. University Housing and the Saluki Family Association, along with admissions, are sponsoring the complimentary tailgate.
