Touch of Nature announces summer camp changes

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A few changes are slated for the 2016 summer camp schedule at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center.

The Survival 103 Overnight Camp and the Blue Planet 2 Day Camp, both originally slated to run in mid-July for different age groups, have now been combined to create the all-new Blue Planet Adventure Day Camp and ages 12 to 15 are welcome to attend.  The day camp takes place July 11-15 and participants will enjoy an adventure-filled week exploring planet earth -- on land, water and in the air.

Campers will go rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, snorkeling and see the world from on high via the high ropes course. They will learn survival skills, including how to build a shelter, gather food, purify water, build fires and use navigational skills. The cost of the camp is $250.

Also, the River Runners Overnight Camp originally scheduled for July 18-22 for ages 13-15 has been cancelled.
