Media Advisory – Earth Day/Arbor Day Events
Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover activities planned for Friday, April 22, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale as part of an Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration. The schedule includes:
- Campus tree planting, 8-11 a.m. and noon-3 p.m. Students, faculty and staff will meet at Parking Lot 7, north of the Pulliam Clock Tower, at the beginning of each session and plant trees in conjunction with Earth Day/Arbor Day and to celebrate SIU’s designation as a Tree Campus USA. Planting will go on rain or shine.
- Flower planting, 10-11:30 a.m. Under the direction of SIU’s Grounds Department and Student Affairs, flowers will be planted near Shryock Auditorium.
- Bike Repair Station, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., outside the north entrance of the Student Center. People can stop by to get free quick repairs on their bicycles.
- LOGIC (LOcal Gardening Initiative of Carbondale) Work Day, 2-4 p.m. Volunteers will be working in the garden, located at 3373 W. Pleasant Hill Road, preparing the soil, planting crops and performing garden maintenance.
