Athletic camps for youths available this summer

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University Carbondale is hosting several athletic camps for youths of various ages this summer. 

The camp schedule, along with eligible participant ages, a brief description of each camp and prices, includes: 

  • Universal Cheer/Dance Camp, June 6-9, ages 12 and older. Participants will learn cheers and dances, improve techniques and work together to enhance skills. The cost for overnight camp is $349 for athletes or coaches or for instruction only without overnight accommodations it is $225 for athletes and $165 for coaches.   • Saluki Baseball Camps, June 13-16, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., ages 7-13. Participants in this commuter camp learn the fundamentals of hitting, pitching, fielding, playing infield and outfield and at specific positions as well as running bases as they enjoy the experience of playing the game on the artificial turf of the Richard “Itchy” Jones Stadium. $180 or $160 for six or more registering together until May 23 or $195/$175 after that date.
  • Challenger British Soccer Camp, June 13-17, 9 a.m.-noon for ages 6-10 and 1-4 p.m. for ages 11-16. The camp provides instruction in soccer fundamentals and skills as participants learn sportsmanship, leadership, respect and responsibility. $135.
  • Saluki Track and Field Throws Camp, July 16, 17, 23 and/or 24, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., ages 12-18. Participants will learn new skills and techniques and improve their performance in discuss and shot put and they will receive personalized evaluations. $100 for one day, $150 for two days, $250 for three days or $300 for four days.
  • Saluki Baseball Prospects Camp, dates to be determined during fall 2016, giving those who will graduate high school from 2017 to 2019 a chance to showcase their baseball skills. More information on this camp will be forthcoming.
