Media Advisory – Student Recognition Dinner

The Illinois Principals Association, Shawnee Region, will hold the 26th annual Student Recognition Dinner on Monday, April 18, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Center Ballrooms in celebration of area children in grades 1-12 and their accomplishments.

Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the event, which begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. in the Corker Lounge followed by the honors dinner at 6 p.m. Students are selected for the recognition on the basis of their skills, work ethic, character and academic achievement.

The region encompasses Jackson, Williamson, Saline, Gallatin, Union, Johnson, Pope, Hardin, Alexander, Pulaski and Massac counties. The parents and guardians of the students along with their school principals are invited as well. About 250 people are expected to attend.

Kerry Martin, teacher and head football coach at Marion High School, will be the guest speaker this year. For more information, contact Thomas Webb, principal of Carterville Intermediate School and Shawnee Region Director for the Illinois Principals Association, at 618/985-6411.
