Media Advisory – Archery Hunts
Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center is hosting two special hunting opportunities for people with disabilities during the month of November. Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover either of the hunts on the 3,100-acre environmental education facility.
An archery turkey and deer hunt will take place Friday-Sunday, Nov. 13-15. Co-sponsors are the National Wild Turkey Federation and Illinois Wheelin’ Sportsmen. SIU’s National Wild Turkey Federation Longspurs chapter members will assist with the event.
There will also be an archery deer hunt for people with disabilities Nov. 27-29 at Touch of Nature. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Safari Club International Illinois Chapter are partnering with Touch of Nature for this hunt.
Both hunts are designed to give people with varying abilities and disabilities the opportunity to experience a safe, fun hunt and enjoy camaraderie with other hunters. All participants have current hunting permits and licenses and follow federal and state guidelines.
The best opportunity for media to obtain interviews and find opportunities for good photographs or video of either hunt is between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on the Saturday or Sunday of each hunt weekend.
