Media Advisory – Innovative Product Put to Use
An innovative product created by a Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Architecture graduate will be on display Tuesday, Nov. 10, as installation of laminated bamboo structural beams continues at the new Williamson County Regional Airport terminal building.
The work will be on display beginning at 10:30 a.m. Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to attend. Media members are asked to first meet at the existing terminal lobby, 10400 Terminal Drive, Marion, by 10:15 a.m. The new terminal building is west of the existing terminal.
Installation of the beams will continue rain or shine. About 15 graduate and undergraduate students from the university’s School of Architecture will also be present to watch and learn. Luke Schuette, a School of Architecture graduate, founded the company, Springfield-based Lamboo Technologies.
John K. Dobbins, associate professor and head of graduate studies in architecture at SIU Carbondale, said Schuette came up with the idea, did the research to get the company started, and is now making a lot of the product. Bamboo is a sustainable product and rapidly renewable resource, Dobbins said.
