Law school earns national recognition

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The SIU School of Law is earning national recognition as one of National Jurist magazine’s “Best Value Law Schools for 2015.”

The law school received a B+ rating from the magazine as one of the top 64 law schools in the nation. The ranking assesses areas that include employment rates, tuition, cost-of-living and student indebtedness upon graduation. The ranking was released in the magazine’s fall 2015 issue.

“This ranking recognizes the things that are important to SIU Law, including low tuition and student debt and excellent outputs such as bar pass rates and placement rates,” Dean Cynthia L. Fountaine said. “This is important because it reflects our mission to keep costs low for students, but provide them with a legal education that is as good or better than they would receive at any law school in the country.”

Fountaine said the recognition, along with a higher ranking in the 2015 U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Law Schools” “have helped us effectively compete for a smaller pool of students,” Fountaine said.
