University Honors accepting course proposals
The University Honors program offers opportunities for faculty and staff as well as for students.
The UHON 351 class covers a number of specialized seminars that give faculty the opportunity to teach a specific topic to students in the tops of their classes. All disciplines are welcome. Sample courses from the current semester include: “Tolkien’s World,” “Social History of Rock and Roll,” “Social Issues in Advertising,” “History of Food,” “Walt Disney in Popular Culture,” and “Spirituality in the Human Experience.”
The University Honors program pays faculty for teaching the courses and the faculty member’s academic unit receives all the FTE credit for the course. The deadline for course proposals for the fall 2016 semester is Oct. 9, and for the spring 2017 semester the deadline is March 11, 2016.
The course proposal form and guidelines are on the program’s website. Honors Advisory Council representatives for each college provide additional advice, input and review of proposals. Faculty can also contact Lori Merrill-Fink, University Honors program director, 453-2824, or lomerfi@siu.edu.
