SIU Carbondale appoints director of admissions
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Josephine Koonce Evans, who has served in campus admissions roles at SIU Carbondale and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is returning to SIU as its director of admissions effective Aug. 17.
Evans has served as registrar and director of admissions and financial aid for the SIU School of Law and assistant director of admissions for the University of Illinois College of Law. She has also been director of graduate and professional admissions and academic support, associate registrar, and associate director of admissions and records for the University of Illinois.
At SIU, she will oversee recruiting and admissions strategies focused on new undergraduate and transfer students.
Susan Ford, interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, said Evans brings to her new role a “data-driven approach” and experience in all aspects of student recruitment and enrollment.
“I look forward to a productive and active partnership as we continue to reshape, focus and hone our admissions and recruitment strategies,” she said.
Evans said she will collaborate with offices across campus to help SIU grow its enrollment.
“There are significant challenges ahead for SIU, and higher education in general,” she said. “I look forward to contributing to my alma mater’s success through the strategic recruitment, engagement and enrollment of our future students.”
Evans holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from SIU and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She also holds a certificate in basic mediation skills training from the SIU School of Law.
Her appointment, which follows a national search, is subject to approval by the university’s Board of Trustees. She replaces former SIU admissions director Katharine Suski, who left last year for another position.
