Morris Library to host ‘Dawgs Meet Dogs’

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Morris Library at Southern Illinois University is hosting an event to help people de-stress and relax as the semester draws to a close.

“Dawgs Meet Dogs” is set for 10 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday, May 7 and 8, and also from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday. The event is open to everyone but the main focus is on students, now preparing for their spring final exams.

Specially trained service/therapy dogs from Supporting Independence Through Teamwork (SIT) Service Dogs in Ava will be on the lawn near the north entrance of Morris Library. In case of inclement weather, Dawgs Meet Dogs will move inside to the Browsing Room on the first floor. The canines are highly trained in preparation for public situations.

This is the third time the library has held a similar event at the end of a semester and the response has been very positive each time, organizers said. More than 700 people dropped by to pet and play with the dogs in December 2014.
