Theater department sets performances

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Department of Theater at Southern Illinois University Carbondale wraps up the 2014-2015 season with a shower of free performances and events and one last ticketed event. 

Here’s what’s happening:

• “Godspell,” May 1-3, performances at 7:30 p.m. on May 1-2, and at 2 p.m. on May 3 in the McLeod Theater. Fierce: Musical Theater, a registered student organization, presents this musical with onstage and in-house seating.

“Box,” and “Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-Tung,” May 2, 7:30 p.m. in the C. H. Moe Theater. Bobbi Masters directs this minimalist one-act double bill. The performance is a master’s thesis presentation.

Theater 417 Advanced Acting final presentation, May 6, 7:30 p.m. in the C.H. Moe Theater.

Directing students’ showcase, May 7, 7:30 p.m. in C.H. Moe Theater.

Musical Theater Workshop Performance, May 8, 7:30 p.m. in the McLeod Theater. This event features excerpts from musical theater. Three groups of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater students compete for audience votes (and extra credit). They’ll also present several large-group numbers.

The Archies, May 9, reception at 7 p.m. and ceremony at 8 p.m. in the C. H. Moe Theater. This gala event honors the founding department chair, Archibald McLeod. The Department of Theater-SIU version of the Tony Awards, the Archies recognize outstanding achievement from the season. Tickets are $6 at the door.
