Library plans screening of winning videos
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- You can see “Welcome to Morris Library, Billy,” along with the other prize-winning videos from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s recent Morris Library Undergraduate Video Contest at an upcoming reception and screening.
The event will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 13, at the John C. Guyon Auditorium in Morris Library and everyone is welcome. The contest asked undergraduate students to create a 90-second video focusing on life at Morris Library and what students value about the library.
The first place competition video, “Welcome to Morris Library, Billy,” was created by Paul Mindrup, a senior TV and digital media radio major with a degree from Evansville, Ind., and Holden Jones, a senior cinema and photography major from Jacksonville. They won $800.
The second place video is “Morris Library: Make Your Own Story,” by Daren Baldwin , a sophomore cinema and photography major from Carbondale., and Jeff Haney, a freshman cinema and photography major from Deerfield. They earned a $200 prize.
Amanda Neuhouser, a sophomore cinema and photography major from Bloomington, took third prize, a $100 University Bookstore gift card, with “Morris Library.” “The Heart to Success -- Morris Library” earned Eric Morrison, a junior TV and digital media radio major from Carbondale, runner-up recognition.
Judges for the competition included: Sarah Lewison, associate professor of radio, television and digital media; Antonio Martinez, associate professor of cinema and photography; Walter Metz, professor of cinema and photography; Joshua Vossler, associate professor of library affairs; and Susan Tulis, associate dean of library affairs. The Friends of Morris Library and the SIU Bookstore provided the prizes for the competition.
