‘Fitness Fusion’ to hit the Student Rec Center

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Recreational Sports and Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is sponsoring a unique fitness experience from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 10, and everyone is welcome.

Participation is free for all SIU students and Student Recreation Center members. The public is welcome as well but will pay a $6 facility admission fee and must also show a valid picture identification to enter.

The evening begins with “The Cardio Hip Hop Breakdown with Jac.” Jaclyn Hadfield, a California native who has been providing instruction in the Midwest since 2011 and now serves as a dedicated group fitness instructor and graduate assistant for fitness and wellness at Indiana University, will lead the class. Her Cardio Hip Hop Breakdown actually got its start when Hadfield attended SIU and began creating the class.

After the hip hop class, participants will work their way up the intensity ladder with “The Fitness Marshall” led by Caleb Marshall, creator of The Fitness Marshall YouTube Channel and an Indiana University fitness instructor.

No prior dance experience is required to participate in either or both portions of the Friday Fitness Fusion event. The SIU Student Recreation Center fitness department staff enjoyed the ‘all-out dance party” experience in February at the Midwest Fitness Conference in Dayton, Ohio, and quickly made plans to bring it to Carbondale.

No advance registration is required. Just show up and join in. For more information, contact Jason Davis, assistant director of fitness, at jasondavis@siu.edu or by calling 618/453-1275.
